With so many film festivals in town, why is this one so important? Because newcomers and old-timers seek knowledge of how, when, why and by whom, the local Jewish community was established, preserved and taken to the current-day marvel it is.
SECOND ANNUAL LOCAL JEWISH HISTORY FILM FESTIVAL
4 days 5 Southwest Florida Jewish Pioneers Films
This year’s festival will begin with Southwest Florida Jewish Pioneers series film premiere of Midsummer Night Dream, a story about local musician Michael Mendesohn, a British snowbird who’s been making music in Naples for 25 seasons.
Thursday, March 21 @ 3pm Midsummer Night Dream
The festival will continue with a first time live screening of Mayor With A Heart about Naples’ 4-time Mayor Bill Barnett, the premiere of which was during Covid.
Wednesday, March 27 @ 2pm Mayor With A Heart
The third film is about the Laboda family and through them about the story of Lee and Charlotte Counties Jewish Community
Friday, April 5 @ 11 am The Labodas of Fort Myers
Our final presentation will be 2 films about the then very young men, who do not know each other to this day, but whose stories are similar in many regards.
